Lukumades Greek doughnuts franchise launches

Greek doughnuts chain Lukumades is going global with its popular sweet treats model now franchising.

Lukumades’ founder Exarhos Sourligas started out in 2016 out of a food truck that roamed the streets of Melbourne and within nine months the business had grown enough to put down roots in a bricks and mortar store.

By September 2020 Sourligas had opened the first of five stores in shopping malls across Indonesia in and had big plans to expand across Asia in 2021.

Back home, in the Melbourne and Sydney stores, lockdown restrictions had a big impact with up to 80 per cent of foot traffic lost. Switching to food delivery platforms helped keep the businesses trading.

And now expansion across the two cities is planned.

Melbourne’s newest location Roxburgh Park joins West Melbourne, Windsor and Carlton in Victoria and a Chippendale store in New South Wales.

“This past year has been really tough and the world needs doughnuts now more than ever. Lukumades is here to share the best Greek doughnuts on the planet with everyone,” Sourligas said.

In addition to the 17 flavoured lukumades on the menu, the stores offer gelato, coffee and shakes.
