The worldÍs largest independent supermarket group, SPAR, will continue its move into the Sydney market when it opens its fourth store in the city at SPAR Mascot, in the Mascot Station Precinct, on Saturday, May 8.
Store owner Peter Tang said he chose a SPAR franchise because it was a global brand that still allowed him the flexibility of local ownership.
“I can tailor my range to the local demographic and support the local community in ways I feel will offer the most benefit. It means the store becomes a genuine part of the community and is not the one-size-fits-all offering provided by the big chains,” Tang said.
“We have a large Asian community in this area so we will definitely provide a comprehensive product range for that market. We also have a large population of busy young professionals who are time poor and looking for food-to-go.
“Being in the Mascot Station Precinct, we are ideally located to cater for these customers as they commute to and from the city and the airport where tens of thousands of people work every day.”
Tang said SPARÍs fresh, clean euro styling would also provide an alternative shopping experience to the traditional American offer.
SPAR AustraliaÍs chief executive, Leigh Carson, said “The multicultural and multi-demographic nature of the Mascot district makes the SPAR model, with its inherent flexibility, very appropriate. A market-specific product range, fresh produce and the highly contemporary styling will work very well.
SPAR stores are all locally owned.
