The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) recognised top performing South Australian based franchisees at the 2013 NAB FCA Excellence in Franchising Awards recently.
Peter Webb of Narellan Pools, who has been with the brand for just over three years, received the prestigious Franchisee of the Year, two or more staff award.
The business is a family affair, with Peter’s wife Marty and brother Paul also involved.
He said the franchisor has been incredibly supportive over the years, with head office staff even flying in to attend the awards evening.
While the submission process was extensive Peter said it assisted him in uncovering the internal state of the business.
“There was a lot involved in the submission process, but it was actually quite relaxing to work through. I think our staff will be happy and excited that we’ve won,” he said.
ActionCOACH Torrensville franchisee Mark Carn snapped up his fourth Excellence in Franchising award, this time earning himself the title of Franchisee of the Year, less than two staff.
Mark attributes his success to continued education as well as interaction with other coaches and business people.
“We have a couple of conferences a year, there are forums for coaches and we have an intranet with a wealth of information. I’m also part of a group of coaches that meets up via phone on a weekly basis. It’s a great thing [the win] for the organisation,” he said.
The Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year award was presented to Bakers Delight franchisee Richard Whittaker, who said it is a great feeling to receive recognition both from Bakers Delight and the franchising sector.
“The feeling that you’ve been recognised by other people in your field is incredible. Bakers Delight deciding they wanted to nominate us was also a huge thing for us,” he said.
Richard currently operates Bakers Delight stores in Victor Harbor and Happy Valley, and he is about to open his third store.
In 2012, he took out the Franchisee Community Service award.
Peter, Mark and Richard have all qualified as finalists for the NAB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards to be held in October.
