La Porchetta is AustraliaÍs largest, fully licensed restaurant franchise specialising in Italian and modern cuisine at affordable prices.

We believe in the highest standard ingredients delivered with exceptional and quick a-la-carte service. We’re passionate about the overall experience of dining and offering the best European-style experience to every customer.

How old is the company and when did you start franchising?
The La Porchetta company began 25 years ago in 1985 with one restaurant in inner Melbourne. The first franchise opened five years later.

How many franchises do you have?
There are more than 80 franchises in the group.

How many are multi-unit franchisees?
Fourteen.

Where do you expect the business to be at the end of 2010?
La Porchetta will continue to grow across Australia and internationally.

What are the start-up costs for a franchisee and what working capital should they have?
From $250,000 to $500,000.

What is the length of agreement?
Five years with one option to renew for a further five years.

What are the royalty fee and marketing levy?
There is a flat fee system, not a percentage of gross profits. This is an attractive advantage for franchisees because the harder you work the more money you keep.

What skills does the franchisee need?
You need a passion for the industry, stamina, entrepreneurial drive and great people skills.

What will you teach them?
We will teach you all the skills you’ll require to run a La Porchetta restaurant, including meal preparation, restaurant operation procedures, staff management, bookkeeping and administration.

What is the most common mistake made by new franchisees?
Franchisees need to understand that La Porchetta is a hands-on, people-oriented business and that means long hours, not nine to five. But if you are prepared to work hard, you can create a very successful business.
