Indulge at Wendy’s

Wendy’s is one franchise seeing a future in healthy indulgence.

Treating themselves to a tasty snack is one way financially-squeezed consumers will continue to indulge but the treat is often perceived as naughty but nice. Ice cream is an obvious indulgence but it isn’t left out from the healthy trend at Wendy’s which has responded to customer demand.

“The Wendy’s product range has been developed so there are now some great options available for health, fitness and weight conscious people who want a tasty treat,” says Peter Lokan, Wendy’s general manager of marketing.

“We know from our customers that the inclusion of a range of healthier products is an important part of the Wendy’s offering – and it’s an area of the business that’s delivering strong results for our franchisees.

“So while we’re not currently considering making significant changes to our menu, we will continue to complement it with choices to suit all our customer needs and to ensure there really is something for everyone at Wendy’s.”

A not-so-naughty treat includes a low sugar, 99 per cent fat-free Chocollo ice cream which has added soluble fibre and 98 per cent fat-free Frozen Yoghurt with A and B probiotics intended to aid digestion. Stores also offer 99 per cent fat free mixed berry or banana smoothies topped with crunchy muesli.

The Chocollo range was tested by the University of Sydney’s Glycemic Index Research Services, and apart from the waffle cone, all the junior-sized products have a low-GI rating

“Customer response to the range of Wendy’s healthier product options has been excellent. In fact, Wendy’s Chocollo is ranked in our top five ice cream sales and our franchisees receive a lot of positive feedback about it,” Lokan reveals.
