Sally Anne Illingworth will open the Northern Territory’s first ever Crust pizza outlet in the Darwin suburb of Parap on 3 November.
The new franchisee had worked within the Crust system for three years when she opted to take the next step in her career with the purchase of her very own franchise.
“After gaining extensive knowledge and experience within the operations of the brand I decided it was time to back myself and take on the risk on my own,” says Sally.
“Over the three years I worked at an in-store level and alongside the operations team. I engaged in extensive training and research in order to further develop my understanding and knowledge of the brand.”
While Sally’s familiarity with the pizza chain no doubt played a part in her investment decision, she is also genuinely passionate about the brand.
“The Crust brand system upholds a merit-able image and is forever exceeding customers’ expectations.
“It continues to be innovative by adapting to the latest trends and consumer demand. The brand is strong and I am a passionate stakeholder,” she explains.
So far Sally has learned the importance of being a team player in particular. “I have improved my team skills by working alongside ample stakeholders and shareholders.”
She notes increasing brand awareness as a key challenge – which makes sense considering Crust is entering a completely new territory.
“As a franchisee in a new market my greatest challenge has been around understanding how to replicate the existing culture of the brand into an operation where brand awareness is extremely low.”
Sally has one key piece of advice for potential franchisees: “Make sure you are passionate about the brand. If you are not passionate, how can you assist in its long term growth and success?”
