Potential buyer for Pie Face

Stan Gordon, the chief executive of Franchised Food Company (FFCo), has voiced his interest in acquiring Pie Face, which went into voluntary administration last month.

He told Franchising: “We’re talking about the livelihoods of 50 odd families and potentially over 500 employees with the Pie Face collapse, and FFCo is the “knight in shining armour” at the ready.”

Gordon believes FFCo is the right company to take on the business, given both its area of specialisation – it is the umbrella company of snack food brands Cold Rock Ice Creamery, Trampoline, Nutshack, Pretzel World and Europa, as well as his experience.

He told Franchising: “There’s not many groups with the know-how and knowledge of the fun-treats market, but FFCo is the one for the job. So watch this space…. and you may see me riding in on my white horse…

“I’ve done the pie business before… I know what not to do and I am confident we have the recipe for success.”

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Gordon has approached Pie Face’s administrator, Jirsch Sutherland, on several occasions however he is yet to receive a response.

He believes the administrator as well as Pie Face’s directors and investors aren’t necessarily looking to sell the business – rather they are more interested in pursuing a deed of company arrangement and refinancing the company’s major creditor, Macquarie Capital.

Gordon isn’t the only one keen on the Pie Face brand, Woolworths is currently selling its frozen pies in select stores as part of a trial.
