The administrators of REDgroup Retail, owners of Angus & Robertson and Borders, has announced that the remaining nine Borders bookstores will close their doors over the coming weeks.
With 315 staff members affected, the final Borders stores will close on 17 July.
The administrator, from Ferrier Hodgson, John Melluish, said the stores are closing because of a lack of interest from buyers.
“The employees have shown extraordinary commitment in their efforts to keep the business going,” he said. “Unfortunately the reasons for the store closures are beyond their control.”
According to SmartCompany, a spokesman for Ferrier Hodgson said that there is no change on the status of Angus & Robertson.
News of the closures doesn’t come as a complete surprise, with Ferrier Hodgson announcing earlier this week that Borders and Angus & Robertson will be forced to close if suitable buyers can’t be found. Read more here.
