Retail franchise: Dr Boom

The mobile phone accessories and repair market is fragmented and overcrowded and susceptible to counterfeits, says Jack Zervos of Dr Boom.  But that isn’t holding back the Aussie business that has been around under different banners for 20 years.

“If you do it properly, it positions you well in the market,” Zervos says.

The Dr Boom chain sells only branded products and parts, offering pre-quoted prices for repairs. Mobile repairs are conducted on site – this helps attract business, he says – and franchisees need to be undertaking 10 repairs daily.

So what is Zervos looking for in franchisees? “People focused, engaging individuals who understand about small value transactions and the importance of making lots of them, and upselling.”

Any internet sales will be allocated to the franchisee located in the area.

There are eight company owned stores (seven of these in Westfield centres) and these are being offered for franchise, with the incentive of 50 percent vendor finance.

“If we can franchise all current stores, we have the capacity to look at eight (new stores) a year,” says Zervos.
