Slush Puppie set to franchise

Slush Puppie, a company which provides drink freezers to Australian supermarkets, fast food outlets and small corner stores, will soon embark on a national expansion program involving the creation of 90 individual franchise regions.

Slush Puppie is part of The Stafford Group of Companies, headed by Murray Stafford and son Frank, and has an extensive portfolio of commercial, retail and industrial properties in Australia.

Slush Puppie has been very successful to date, but to grow the business further would require large numbers of additional staff and more gradual growth, Stafford said. By offering a strictly limited number of franchises and partnering with like-minded people who are suited to this business we can grow Slush Puppie much faster and much greater than if we continue to do it ourselves.

There are approximately 3,000 Slush Puppie freezers in high traffic locations across Australia and according to Stafford, the individual franchises being offered include a mix of established freezers and a minimum of 10 new freezers per region, which can be established in new locations.

The Slush Puppie business model is very simple and involves the manufacture of a concentrated product and maintaining a fleet of freezers that are placed in high volume retail outlets, Stafford said.

Franchisees will own and service those freezers in their franchise territories and outlets where they are located, such as convenience stores, who then sell the product to the end consumer. Those retailers purchase the concentrate product from their local franchisee.

There will be no ongoing royalties payable by the franchisee, who buys the concentrate product from the factory and then sells it to the retail operators at a profit. Stafford also said that after seeking advise from demographic experts on the number and size of franchise regions, there will only ever be 90 offered nationally.

The company is looking for motivated people who have a business or sales background and are excellent communicators.

The systems, training and back-up are all in place and they will be earning money from the first day so we expect we will be able to expand our Slush Puppie team fairly rapidly, he said.
